The Dynamic Matrix is a powerful tool that allows for a personalized and contextual follow-up question based directly on a participant's previous selections.
How the Dynamic Matrix Works
The platform generates the questions with the matrix dynamically based on a participant's selections in a preceding multi-select question. When a participant completes the multi-select question, the platform processes their choices and dynamically creates the subsequent matrix question, displaying only the options (rows) that were selected.

How to Set Up the Dynamic Matrix
Note: The Dynamic Matrix can only be linked to a Multi-select survey question type.
Create the Multi-select Question: Start by creating the initial multi-select question where participants will make their primary choices. Make sure to add all the response options to the multi-select question,
Add the Matrix Question:
- Choose a new question type card.
- Within the card, select the "Matrix" with any of the matrix options.
Link the Questions:
- Look for the "Link Variable" option displayed above the Matrix question.
- Click on "Link Variable" and select the specific multi-select question you want to link to the Dynamic Matrix.
Enter the Matrix question and column headers:
- Click on “Your question text goes here” to enter the Matrix question
- If you have selected the single select or multi select type, enter the answer options for each column by clicking ‘Col1’ and ‘Col 2’
- If you have selected the Likert scale text or numbers options, verify the answer options make sense for your question
Once linked, the platform automatically understands which options to present in the Dynamic Matrix based on what the participant chose in the multi-select question.
