Discover roles control what a user can do within the Discover feature of your ThoughtExchange account. Discover roles are separate from Engage roles (Leader, Room Admin, etc.) — a user can hold both at the same time, independently of each other.
How Discover roles work
- Discover roles are assigned at the account level, not per room. Once a user has a Discover role, they can access the Discover section in any room on that account, even rooms where they don’t hold a Leader license.
- Discover roles are assigned and changed in Admin Settings > Users, and only an Account Administrator can make that change.
- A user’s Discover role is separate from their Engage role, and most Discover roles can be assigned to any user on their own. The exception is Discover Admin / Contributor, which also needs a Leader license in Engage. Leader access is what allows them to create collections, and collections are what give access to engagement data.

Discover Admin
Full Discover management: can upload, edit, and delete files, and create a collection using either a new or an existing file. This is the role needed for any user managing the account's data sources.
Discover Contributor
Discover Contributors can create collections using files that have already been uploaded to the account, but can't upload, edit, or delete files.
Discover Viewer
A Discover Viewer can open and read collections but can’t create collections or manage files. Ideal for leaders who just need to review results.
No Discover Role
The user won't see the Discover section in the room at all.
